The Hawarden golf club also lies close to where Wales borders Cheshire - just six miles from Chester and a couple of minutes from the A55. It's an undulating 18-hole par 69 parkland course, set in mature meadowland and offering a challenge to golfers of all abilities. The course was founded in 1911, close to the ancestral home of Victorian prime minister William Gladstone. Its par 69 matches the standard scratch; therefore scoring for your handicap is often pretty tough.
