Golf can be a bit of a battle, but rarely does it get bloody. When the Vikings decided to pay a visit in the 11th century, Maesdu (‘Black Field’) was the site of The Battle of Deganwy. But don’t worry; you’re likely to complete a round unscathed. The course is pleasantly undulating, with great views of Conwy Bay, the Great Orme and the mountains

of Snowdonia. Add to that 18 varied holes across parkland and links, and you’ve got a great round of golf. The course was designed by James Braid, who was also behind the King’s and Queen’s course at Gleneagles. And it’s where Ian Woosnam played in the Welsh Boys’ Championship in 1974.
